Boba spots have been popping up all over San Diego, especially in the Convoy area where there is Asian food galore. Definitely a major plus for college students like me who need their boba fix every so often to catch up with friends, reward ourselves after finals, or even just because milk tea=energy for studying.
I’ve never been a coffee drinker, so the moment I have any type of caffeine I just get really jittery. And for some reason, this applies when I have boba in the afternoons/evenings-it usually just takes me FOREVER to fall asleep. Sometimes when I’m lying in bed trying to sleep I question my decisions about getting boba, but it’s just too hard to resist sometimes. Enjoy now, regret later…just kidding, no regrets.
Kung Fu Tea is another milk tea chain that has been somewhat popular for quite some time now, I think primarily in the East Coast-and they finally opened one up here in San Diego. Sorry, I’m late to the party again (I came here a good 3 or 4 months ago but am just now posting this). But this was our post-midterms celebration!
Quite spacious with plenty of seating, and they also offered us free samples of their popular winter melon tea (冬瓜茶). There’s also the option of choosing your ice and sweetness levels, which I always like to reduce (usually no ice and light sugar).
If you do a Yelp check-in, you can also get a free topping, so I decided to get the red-bean on top of my usual boba order.
I’m a creature of habit, so naturally i decided to go for the green tea (actually I think we all ended up ordering the same drink), since the winter melon tea was a bit too sweet for me. Boba was also very chewy, and if I come back here next time, I think I’d like to explore their other tea options.
