Warning: There is a high risk of addiction to these delicious snacks. A few weeks ago, my roommate brought back a bag of Muddy Buddies and offered me some. That was the moment I got addicted to Muddy Buddies. While I was studying for midterms, I remember craving a bag of Muddy Buddies and carrying a bag around and munching away in the midst calculating areas between curves, memorizing polyatomic ions and studying race as a social construct. Let me warn you, however, that the Freshman 15 exists. I gained a good 8 pounds or so during the first quarter, and I would say my guilty pleasure for Muddy Buddies might have been the cause.
Nonetheless, these Muddy Buddies, otherwise known as “puppy chow”, make a delicious snack on the go or for a holiday party and make a great holiday gift! Plus, it’s so simple to make.
- 9 cups Chex cereal
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup nutella
- 1/4 cup butter/margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Holiday M&Ms
Microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, nutella and butter in 30 second intervals.
Mix and continue to microwave until mixture is smooth.
Stir in vanilla.
Pour mixture over cereal until evenly coated.
Pour into gallon resealable plastic bag.
Add powdered sugar. Shake away!! (This part is so fun.)
When chex mixture is evenly coated, let cool.
Add M&Ms and mix.
Recipe from here.
Melt and stir this peanut buttery, chocolatey goodness.
Be careful when coating the cereal with chocolate! You don’t want to crush up all the cereal.
Add powdered sugar into the bag and shake shake shake!
Cute packaging idea-I used holiday saran wrap and some curling ribbon. I handed these out to my friends as a goody bag at a holiday party I hosted!
Enjoy your holidays, and thank you for reading! ♥
