Is it ironic that I’m an aspiring dentist and have a sweet tooth? Well, to be fair, I stray away from most candies and I don’t drink soda or juice, but I have a hard time staying away from my desserts. Plus, the best treat to look forward to after a nice dip in the ocean or a really hot and dry hike is usually something cold, sweet and refreshing. So, ICE CREAM!
Trendy desserts are all the hype nowadays, whether it’s ice cream stuffed donuts, cookie shots, ice cream tacos, and even these Thai-inspired ice cream scrolls. I actually discovered this place thanks to the magic of Instagram, and we all decided to head on over after our hike at Eaton Canyon.
Basically, you add your choice of toppings to the ice cream flavor of your choice, which is then poured onto a really cold (something like -20 °C cold) surface, where the ice cream batter freezes into a thin sheet.
From there, the ice cream is rolled up into scrolls-fun, right!?
And you get this!! My friend and I shared green tea ice cream scrolls topped with green tea mochi and red bean in true classic Asian spirit, because you can never go wrong with a mochi, green tea and red bean combo.
Lisa ordered one of the signature rolls-“Good-Zooky”, which was also very similar to the one we had ordered, but hers came with a little something extra, complete with the cute Koala and pocky.
Michelle and Johnny shared the Cactus bloom, which has dragonfruit flavored scrolls, jackfruit and chia seeds.
And Lucas went for the more sweet, chocolate-y roll: “Ballin on a Fudge-It”, which comes with chocolate, oreo and brownies.
Overall, this place was a really fun and cool concept, and hopefully I’ll see more of it in Thailand!! (*wink wink*) These scrolls aren’t too different from regular ice cream in terms of texture or taste, but it’s unique in appearance so if you’re ever in the LA/626 area, come by for an interesting dessert (and insta-worthy treat).
